Brains and Boots: Eckerd Men’s Soccer Cleans Up in the Classroom

Let’s be real: college sports are a grind. Between the 6:00 AM conditioning, the bus rides across Florida, and the actual pressure of the game, it’s easy for the books to take a backseat. But the Eckerd Tritons men’s soccer squad is proving they’ve got just as much juice in the library as they do at the Johnson Field.

United Soccer Coaches just dropped their annual Team Academic Award list, and our boys in South St. Pete officially made the cut. To get this nod, a program has to maintain a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better for the entire academic year. It’s not just about one kid carrying the curve; it’s a collective effort that shows the whole roster is locked in.

It’s a massive win for the culture under the lights at Eckerd. In a town like St. Pete, where there are plenty of distractions (looking at you, Beach Drive), keeping the GPA above water while competing at a high level is no small feat. It’s one thing to execute a perfect set piece; it’s another to execute a final exam after a long road trip.

While we’re always down to cheer for a last-minute goal, seeing the Tritons recognized for the work they do when the cameras aren't rolling is just as sweet. Shoutout to the team for keeping the standards high and representing Pinellas County with some genuine student-athlete energy.
