Brains and Bases: Eckerd Softball Dominates the Classroom

It’s one thing to grind out a double-header in the Florida humidity; it’s another thing entirely to do it while maintaining a GPA that makes your parents actually proud. The Eckerd Tritons softball squad just proved they aren't just athletes—they're legit scholars.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) just released their year-end honors, and Eckerd is officially one of the smartest teams in the country. The Tritons were named a recipient of the Team Academic Award, a nod to the entire roster putting in the work when the stadium lights go down.

But the hardware didn't stop with the team trophy. Fourteen individual Tritons were named NFCA Scholar-Athletes. For those keeping score at home, that means nearly the entire dugout is pulling elite grades while balancing travel schedules and practice.

We love to see our local St. Pete athletes winning, but seeing them dominate the books is a different kind of flex. In a town where it’s easy to get distracted by the beach and the nightlife, these women are locked in.

If you see a Triton on campus this week, maybe ask them for help with your homework. Clearly, they know what they’re doing.
