Brains and Birdies: Eckerd Men’s Golf Crushes it in the Classroom

It’s easy to think of college golf as just four hours of walking in the sun followed by a clubhouse lunch, but the squad over at Eckerd College is proving they’re putting in just as much work in the library as they are at the driving range.

The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) just dropped their 2025-26 PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Awards, and the Tritons didn't just make the list—they soared past the standard. Not only did the team pick up the general academic nod, but they were also singled out for the Presidents Special Recognition.

For those not fluent in NCAA nerd-speak, that’s a big deal. To get the basic award, a team needs a 3.0 GPA. To get the "President’s" stamp of approval, the roster has to maintain a collective GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Think about that for a second. While juggling tournament travel, early morning practices, and the general chaos of being a college student in St. Pete, these guys are pulling down high honors across the board. It’s one thing to navigate a tricky bunker at Mangrove Bay; it’s another to navigate a heavy course load while staying competitive in the Sunshine State Conference.

In a sports world where people love to joke about "easy majors," the Tritons are currently the smartest guys in the room (or at least on the green). If you see the team around the South St. Pete campus, give 'em a nod. They’re representing the 727 with some serious class.
