Eckerd Golf Just Proved They Aren’t Just Playing Through the Easy Hazards

Look, we all know the stereotype. Most people think college golf is just four hours of vibing on the green followed by a long nap. But the crew over at Eckerd College just turned in a scorecard that proves they’re putting in just as much work in the library as they are at the driving range.

The GCAA recently dropped their list of Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for the 2025-26 season, and the Tritons absolutely flooded the zone. Five players from the Eckerd roster made the cut, proving that this squad is built a little different.

Shout out to Josh DiZinno, Thayne Thomas, Reggie Fear, Tyler Van Dusen, and Drew Campbell. These aren't just guys who can hit a fairway; these are the student-athletes actually holding down the 'student' part of the title while competing at the NCAA Division II level.

To make this list, you can’t just be a scrub with a high GPA, and you can’t just be a powerhouse with a failing grade. You have to be a sophomore, junior, or senior who maintains a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 while maintaining a stroke average under 78.0. It’s about consistency, and clearly, the Tritons have plenty of it.

In a sports world where we usually only talk about the highlight reels, it’s worth noting when a local team cleans up on the academic side. These guys are representing St. Pete the right way.
