Nerds on the Green: Eckerd Men’s Golf Crushes the Books and the Course

It’s easy to assume college golfers spend all their time debating the merits of different brands of visors or working on their short game, but the crew over at Eckerd College is busy setting a bar that most of us would have tripped over in college.

The GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) just dropped their 2025-26 PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Awards, and our Tritons didn’t just make the list—they flexed on it. The Eckerd men’s golf team was officially named a recipient of the award, but they went a step further by earning the Presidents Special Recognition.

For those of you who spent your college years barely scraping by with a C-minus and a prayer, here is the context: The Presidents Special Recognition is reserved for teams that maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

We’re talking about a group of athletes who spend half their lives traveling to tournaments and chasing small white balls around the grass, yet somehow manage to keep their grades in the stratosphere. It’s a level of discipline that frankly makes the rest of us look a little lazy.

In a sports world where we usually only talk about scorecards, it’s worth shouting out the guys who are winning in the classroom too. Congrats to the Tritons for showing the rest of the Sunshine State Conference how it’s done. Keep that same energy during finals week.
