Living along Gulf Boulevard is supposed to be the ultimate coastal dream. You have the salty breeze, the Gulf sunset views, and easy beach access right outside your door. But right now, for a few unlucky condo neighbors along the strip, paradise comes with an unwelcome side dish: an overflowing dump site and a stalled construction project.
A classic Pinellas County convenience store swap has hit a serious snag, and the local wildlife is having an absolute field day with the leftover chaos.
Speedway to 7-Eleven... Eventually
Here is what is going down along the beach drive. A former Speedway station on Gulf Boulevard is currently in the middle of converting into a brand new 7-Eleven. Sounds simple enough on paper, right? Except the site has turned into a total waiting game.
"Well, I guess the project's been kind of off and on, hung up," we pointed out.
When construction grinds to a sudden halt on a high-visibility beach corridor, the leftover mess does not just magically disappear. In this case, the temporary cleanup debris has turned into a permanent eyesore for everyone nearby.
Birds, Garbage, and Beachfront Condos
Our sharp-eyed local viewer Susan was not about to sit quietly and smell the refuse. She captured the whole messy situation on camera and hit us up using the send video feature on pinellaspodcast.com to blow the whistle on what is happening on her block.
What did she find when she looked over at the property? A massive dumpster that has overstayed its welcome in the worst way possible.
"Check this out. This is pretty nasty," the video breaks down. "The dumpster remains. It's full of nastiness. There's birds everywhere. There's trash everywhere."
To make matters worse, there are residential condos sitting directly behind the property. Nobody buys a piece of prime beach town real estate expecting their main view—and scent—to be an open-air buffet for local gulls and trash scavengers.
As Susan put it: "We're stuck with all of this crap while the project gets gets hung up."
Living the Gulf Boulevard Life
Look, beach town construction happens all the time around Tampa Bay. Projects get delayed, permits take time, and timelines slide. But when you are living right on the corridor, having an abandoned mountain of trash sitting out in the hot Florida sun gets old real fast.
"I get it. I mean, you know, you're living on Golf Boulevard," we noted in the video.
When you live in paradise, you expect a little better than a rotting dump site in your backyard. Here is hoping the crew gets back on site soon, clears out the birds, and finishes up the buildout so Susan and her neighbors can get back to enjoying beach life.
